Know More About Omega Flax
Omega-3 fatty acids are poly unsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) found in vegetable and animal kingdom. Alpha Linolenic acid (ALA), the parent fatty acid of Omega-3 family is an essential fatty acid (EFA). They are not synthesised by the body and must be supplemented through diet.
Omega-3 fatty acids are required for many of the important functions of the body. However, they cannot be manufactured by body. Hence, they are called essential fatty acids and must be obtained from dietary sources.
Flax is a yellow flowering plant that is grown for its oil rich seeds.
Flaxseed oil is the richest vegetarian source of the essential omega-3 fatty acids that the body requires for proper functioning. Flaxseed oil contains:
• Active ingredients capable of lowering cholesterol level and reducing platelet aggregation
• Vitamins, minerals, fiber and protein. The protein in flax seeds is easily digested and contains all the amino acids needed for building a strong body.
• A special fiber called mucilage which removes toxic metabolic waste material from the colon and dried mucus. Mucilage helps stabilise blood sugar levels, and is a natural laxative.
Flax seed extract requires anywhere between a few days to as many as six weeks to be absorbed into the body before the full beneficial effects begin.
This is a vegetarian source of omega-3 fatty acids and also contains fibres.Omega Flax capsules are one of the leading Omega 3 tablets in India.

What is the role of omega-3 in healthy living?
EFA perform two vital functions in the body:
• Their primary role is structural- as part of the membrane barrier surrounding the cells and organelles.
• The second function involves the communication between cells, known as signalling.
Where are omega-3 fatty acids found?
Omega-3 fatty acids are found less in foods. Flax seed oil and fish oil are two of the major sources. Flax seed oil is the world’s richest source of omega-3 fatty acids (mainly ALA) apart from certain types of fish like sardine.
How do they help weight loss?
Omega-6 and omega-3 help reduce fat production in the body. They also increase fat burning and heat production and change the body from burning glucose to burning fats. Saturated, monounsaturated and trans- fatty acids do not help to manage weight.
How do they reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease?
Omega-3 can decrease most CVD risk factors, including high triglycerides blood pressure, platelet stickiness, fibrinogen and lipoprotein(a). Omega-3 fatty acids also keep the inside of the arteries smooth. Omega-3 and omega-6 keep the heart beat regular.
How do omega-3 fatty acids help in cardiac health?
The role of Omega-3 in treating cardiovascular diseases is strong with compelling evidence favouring their use. They:
• Reduce the production of pro-inflammatory agents
• Produce potential anti-thrombotic effect
• Provide membrane stabilisation in cardiac tissue
• Have anti-arrhythmic effects
• Enable lowering of triglyceride, contribute to reduced pulse pressure and total vascular resistance
How are omega-3 fatty acids beneficial for mothers and infants?
Omega-3 fatty acid have been found to be useful in pregnancy in prolonging gestation and the prevention of preterm labour by inhibiting AA. DHA is of utmost importance for normal development of the brain, neural and retinal tissues in foetuses and new-borns. DHA supplementation is mandatorily recommended for pregnant and lactating women by WHO in recognition of its role in improving IQ and Eye Q in children.
