hiw breathe sure

The key active ingredient of the boswellia serrata extract are the boswellic acids (BA). Of the various acids, the acetyl group of BA is the most potent anti- inflammatory agents. and the most active acetyl BA is Acetyl keto boswellic acid (AKBA). Breathe Sure is standardised with acetyl group of BA with 10% AKBA. Boswellic acids are specific, non-reducing type inhibitors of 5-lipoxygenase (5-LO), one of the two key enzymes in arachidonic acid metabolism and eicosanoid synthesis leading to inflammation. 5-LO catalyzes the first two steps in the biosynthesis of leukotrienes (LTs) from arachidonic acid to 5-hydroperoxyeicosatetraenoic acid (5(S)-HETE) and subsequently to LTA4, which is further converted to LTB4. LT cause broncho-constriction and mucus secretion and induce plasma exudation, that plays an important role in asthma. • BA also inhibits human leukocyte elastase (HLE) which stimulates mucus secretion and thus may play a role in cystic fibrosis, chronic bronchitis and acute respiratory distress syndrome. HLE initiates injury to the tissues triggering the inflammatory process. • The dual inhibition of 5-LO and HLE is unique to BA.
