BIO-AVAILABILITY OF BCM-95: A NOVEL BIO-ENHANCED PREPARATION OF CURCUMIN
Curcumin, the bio-active component of turmeric, Curcuma longa, has proven antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties but its poor bio-availability in the human body has severely limited its application to effectively tackling diseases. Clinical trials cite poor absorption from the gut and avid metabolism in the body as reasons for lack of systemic availability.
There has been intense scientific research to increase the oral bio-availability of curcumin. Reconstituting curcumin with the non-curcuminoid components of turmeric has been found to substantially increase its bio-availability.
A clinical study to determine the bio-availability of curcuminoids focused on a simple formulation trademarked BCM-95® CG (Biocurcumax). BCM-95®CG was tested on human volunteers — a group of healthy people, not diagnosed with any major disease, and who had not consumed any prescription drugs, and were not habitual users of tobacco and alcohol.
Results of this pilot study indicate that curcumin is absorbed early and retained longer from the BCM-95®CG(BiocurcumaxTM) composition compared to normal curcumin.
