Applying heat can take care of pain and relax tense and painful muscles. Likewise, cold may have a numbing effect on painful muscles and can decrease muscle spasms. Sufficient rest and keeping stress at bay is also important. Obesity increases the pressure and stress on weight-bearing joints, such as the knees and hips, and an optimal weight can reduce the pressure and pain.
